(18 February 2013) At a high-level conference opened in Mexico City, authorities and experts highlighted the lessons learned by Latin American and Caribbean countries following the debt crisis in the early 1980s and called for pending challenges to be tackled.
The two-day event was organized by ECLAC, the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
(22 January 2013) Speaking at the opening session of the First CELAC-EU Academic Summit being held until Wednesday 23 January in Santiago, Chile, the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, stated "We must build a more symmetrical, balanced and equitable relationship with Europe".
(16 October 2012) The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, joined by ECLAC's Directors Osvaldo Rosales and Raúl García-Buchaca, met with high-level officials of the People's Republic of China as part of the first visit that the senior United Nations official carried out to the Asian country.
