"The crisis impact over regional trade and prospects of integration processes". The ECLAC International Trade and Integration Division organized an international seminar in Havana, in order to examine the impacts of the crisis over the Latin American integration outlines, so as to find out about the main initiatives each of them have implemented. Prominent guests attended this conference, such as the Andean Community, Mercosur and the Central American Economic System Secretariats, as well as ALBA representatives. The seminar took place at the World Economy Research Center premises, on September 22 and 23, 2009 .

12th Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis "Trade integration and sustainable development: looking for an inclusive world" to be held on 10 and 12 June 2009, at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago. The goal of the annual conference on economic analysis is to promote the exchange of ideas among economists conducting quantitative analysis of global economic issues. Particular emphasis will be placed on applied general equilibrium methods, data and application. Related theoretical and applied work is also welcome. .

The UNCTAD secretariat is pleased to announce that the next regional course on key issues of international economic agenda for Latin America and the Caribbean will be held from August 24 to September 11, 2009 in Medellin (Colombia). Be held at the University of Medellín EAFIT, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia.
The course will focus on the linkages between trade, investment, finance and development, particularly in the context of international trade negotiations. Its objectives are:

  • Deepen understanding of how these areas are interrelated and their links with the strategies of developing countries;
  • Provide participants with knowledge and skills to formulate and implement trade policies and development and to participate in trade negotiations for the needs and interests of their countries.
The course will be based on the analytical work of UNCTAD and its experience in technical cooperation activities, with input from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and regional and national experts.

On March 31, 2009, the Director of the Division Mr. Osvaldo Rosales, participated in the Roundtable: "Crisis and International Trade" with Alejandro Jara, Deputy Director General of WTO, Félix Peña, Director of the Institute of International Trade Bank Boston Foundation and Hernando Jose Gomez, Director of the Privy Council on Competitiveness of Colombia. This event held in the context of the close of the Regional Course of the WTO, organized by the Sergio Arboleda University in Bogotá, Colombia.

It was held from 26 to 28 November 2008, the Central Bank of Honduras.

"Public-private alliance for upgrading and competitiveness"

This convention was opened by the Guatemalan President, Mr. Álvaro Colom, and the Head of the Treasury Department. It called a great number of actors from the Guatemalan public and private sector. This Seminar was jointly organized by DCII and the Guatemalan Public Finances Ministry, and it took place on 17 November, 2008, in Guatemala City.

"Second Meeting of Modelling using Computable General Equilibrium (CGE)"

This workshop took place on 24-25 November, 2008, in San José, Costa Rica as a joint organization of IDB, ECLAC and INCAE Business School.

Forum: "The attraction of foreign direct investment and the promotion and upgrading of exports within public-private alliances"

This Forum was organized by ECLAC Santiago and Mexico, SEGIB, ProMéxico, ANIERM and COMCE. It took place on 13-14 November, 2008, at BancoMext Centre of Training and International Business (CENCACI), in Mexico City.

The aim of this database is to facilitate access to the most relevant information for a preliminary and compared analysis about trade disputes.
