(3/26/2013)

As one of the parallel activities of the fourth Ministerial Conference on the Information Society in Latin America and the Caribbean, in April 5th, in the city of Montevideo, the book Una iniciativa sectorial para la difusión de las TIC en las empresas: la experiencia de Uruguay will be released. The event is organized by ECLAC @LIS2, project funded by the European Union, and the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.

This publication presents the results of a cooperation experience between ECLAC and MIEM, in which a public policy instrument aimed towards favoring the inclusion of information and communication technologies (ICT) into enterprises, in order to improve their performance, was designed and executed. Diagnostics were made to four sectors of the Uruguayan industry (naval, forests and timber, pharmaceutical and biotechnologies), which allowed to detect several aspects that become relevant at the time of defining specific ICT demands and necessities, and therefore allow to design case-to-case solutions.

The event will have the presence of the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena; Roberto Kreimerman, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay; Mario Cimoli, Director of the ECLAC’s Production, Productivity and Management Division; Giovanni Stumpo, Head of ECLAC’s Investments and Entrepreneurial Strategies Unit, and Sebastián Torres, National Industries Director of MIEM.
