| The statistical information used for MDG monitoring in the LAC region is compiled in CEPALSTAT, the gateway to all the statistical information of Latin America and the Caribbean countries, and comes from different sources. Millennium Database: (Official UN Site for MDG Indicators) This database is maintained by the United Nations Statistics Division and presents the official data, definitions, methodologies and sources for more than 60 indicators to measure progress towards the Millennium Development Goals. The data is product of the work of the Inter-agency and Expert Group (IAEG) on MDG Indicators, coordinated by the United Nations Statistics Division. This database is updated annually and currently offers data series for the period 1990-2008. International Agencies: For each MDG indicator, individual agencies were designated to be the official providers of data and to take the lead in developing methodologies for data collection and analysis. Some data is collected directly from these agencies. ECLAC estimations: ECLAC produces statistical information based on special tabulations of data from the household surveys conducted in the countries. An example are the indicators on poverty and extreme poverty levels and income distribution of the region produced by the Social Statistics Unit of the Statistics and Economic Projections Division. The list of indicators published on this page includes the official MDG indicators and the additional indicators proposed by ECLAC for Latin America and the Caribbean countries. These indicators have been suggested by ECLAC to measure the progress towards the Millennium Development Goals from a regional perspective. Additionally you will find here some official indicators that were eliminated or modified at the last revision of the MDG monitoring framework.
