Introduction

In 2000 ECLAC published the updated, enhanced and corrected Second Edition of the book La economía cubana: reformas estructurales y desempeño en los noventa, in a co-edition with Fondo de Cultura Económica and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), which provided financial support for the undertaking of the study. The translation into English of the study now available here includes a Preface which examines the significant economic developments occurred both in Cuba and in the international field during 1999-2001. A summary of the main recent steps in the process of institutional reforms in the Island is also accounted for and statistical Annex (in Spanish) is also accessible in PDF format.
