En 2007 el producto interno bruto (PIB) de la economía haitiana creció 3,2%, mientras que el déficit fiscal alcanzó 1,6% del PIB. Aunado a ello, otros indicadores como la inflación interanual a la baja (septiembre-septiembre, 7,9%) y el déficit en cuenta corriente (1,3% del PIB) parecieron reflejar también un desempeño macroeconómico más estable del país. Sin embargo, ciertos rezagos estructurales crónicos en materia de creación de empleos y poder adquisitivo (–8%) persisten como fuentes de desigualdad y afectan el devenir de la economía haitiana.

General features of the recent evolution

In 2007, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Haitian economy grew 3.2%, while the fiscal deficit reached 1.6% of GDP. In addition, other indicators such as the low year on year inflation (september- september 7.9%) and the relatively small current account deficit (1,3% of GDP), seemed to reflect a more stable macroeconomic performance. However, certain chronic structural challenges persist in terms of creating employment and purchasing power (-8%), which adversely affect inequality in particular and the development of the Haitian economy in general.
