(21 November 2012) The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will launch its report Social Panorama of Latin America 2012, which contains estimated poverty and extreme poverty rates for each country for 2001, as well as the regional projection for 2012.
The publication will be presented by ECLAC Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, on Tuesday 27 November 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Commission's headquarters in Santiago, Chile.
For the first time, the annual report examines the dynamics of paid employment in care activities in Latin American countries, as well as household expenditure on such work, and proposes normative criteria for public policymaking in this sphere.
The 20th edition of this ECLAC report also covers the following topics:
-Poverty trends and determining factors in Latin America.
-Income distribution and social spending trends in the region.
-Situation of disabled people in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The media are invited to attend the press conference to launch the Social Panorama of Latin America 2012, which will be held at the ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Celso Furtado Conference Room).
