| (12 December 2007) The invitation to take part in the fourth annual Experiences in Social Innovation competition, organized by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, is now open. The deadline for application is 25 January 2008. The 2007-2008 contest follows three previous rounds, which received 3,500 applications from throughout the region. The competition focuses on innovative initiatives in eight areas: community health, primary education, youth programmes, income generation, corporate social responsibility, volunteer work, rural/agricultural development and food security/nutrition. The winning projects will receive the following awards: first prize, US$30,000; second prize, US$20,000, third prize, US$15,000, fourth prize, US$10,000; and fifth prize US$5,000. Municipal or local governments, community associations, religious communities, national and international non-governmental organizations and other private sector, not-for-profit institutions working in ECLAC member countries in Latin America and the region can participate. Also eligible are regional, departmental and provincial governments. Profit-oriented entities may participate in the corporate social responsibility category. To participate, projects must be at least two years old, currently in operation, and they must have taken place in one of ECLAC's 33 Latin American and Caribbean member countries.
