The Internship Programme

ECLAC Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean provides opportunities for students who are enrolled in graduate and post-graduate programmes from diverse academic backgrounds to undertake an internship with one of its various programme units and divisions located in Port of Spain (herein called our Office).

The programme aims to expose the intern to the work of our Office, promote a better understanding of international global issues, and to introduce the intern to the unique and multinational work environment of the United Nations.

The programme will enhance the intern's educational experience through practical work and/or research, along with providing our Office with able assistance in various specialized professional fields.

 
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants may be considered for internship when the following conditions are met:

  1. Applicants are enrolled in an educational institution for a post-graduate programme (after first university degree); or
  2. Applicants are awaiting employment or enrolment in an institution or employment after completing a degree course in a university or equivalent institution; or
  3. Applicants completed the penultimate year of their under-graduate course in a university; and
  4. Applicant has a sponsor or is willing to undertake the internship free of charge, as our Office is not in a position to pay a stipend to interns
 
Terms and Conditions
  1. The duration of an internship shall be for two months, which may be extended for an additional two months. The internship may be extended to a maximum of six months when there are special academic requirements or special needs of our Office.
  2. The internship will normally be on a full-time basis and interns shall be expected to work in accordance with the working hours of our Office.
  3. The intern will work under the supervision of a specific staff member.
  4. Interns shall not be remunerated by our Office. In addition, their expenses such as travel, visas, accommodation, food, etc before and after the internship will be the responsibility of the intern or the sponsoring organization.
  5. Our Office accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of interns or costs arising from injuries or illness incurred during an internship. Applicants for internship must show proof of medical insurance and provide a certificate of good health at the commencement of the internship.
  6. Our Office is not responsible for any claims by third parties where loss or damage to their property, death or personal injury was caused by the actions or omissions of action by interns during their internship.

Interested persons who meet the Eligibility Criteria should submit their application, including curriculum vitae and dates of availability, to internships-poseclac.org

Applications may also be received from the institutions wherein applicants are enrolled, or from sponsoring organizations. Only successful applicants will be sent acknowledgements, and will be provided with a copy of the internship agreement.
