ECLAC Hosts High Level Advisory Committee (HLAC) Meeting of the Review of the Economics of Climate Change in the Caribbean (RECC) Project
The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean will be hosting a meeting of the High Level Advisory Committee of the Regional Project titled "Review of the Economics of Climate Change in the Caribbean (RECCC)". This meeting will take from 14-15 April 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port of Spain.
The RECCC is implemented by ECLAC and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), with the support of the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This project aims to assess climate change impacts on key sectors of Caribbean economies by simulating modelling analyses under different socio-economic scenarios and carbon emission trajectories.
The agriculture, energy, coastal and human settlements, coastal and marine, health, tourism, transportation and water sectors are currently under evaluation. The countries involved in the project include Aruba, Barbados, the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, Curacao, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The project also seeks to determine the costs and benefits of various adaptation and mitigation options as they relate to the impacts of climate change and extreme events.
The findings of the national sectoral phase of the RECCC project will be presented at the meeting of the HLAC in a forum where country representatives and experts can discuss and finalise the reports.
