 | | Improving quantification of women?s unpaid work in support of poverty eradication policies | | | | Resumen / Abstract / Résumé: | | This project addresses the need to strengthen the capacity of the countries in the region in the measurement and valuation of women?s unpaid work and its contribution to the eradication of poverty. The objective of the project is to reinforce the regular production and use of Time-use surveys to generate statistics for monitoring and evaluating programmes and policies at the national level and to develop and strengthen a regional knowledge community on the contribution of unpaid care work to the economy as a whole. The growing recognition that unpaid work is a deterrent to gender equality and an obstacle to women?s access to the labour market is a reflection of the need to support country initiatives that will increase visibility of this issue as an important means to promote gender equality policies. The importance of time-use surveys to measure the contribution of women?s unpaid work to the economy will serve to strengthen national machineries for the advancement of women as well as national statistical institutions, and will contribute to the generation of a collaborative network for the sharing of good practices in the valuation of care activities and of policies on the conciliation of family and work needs. The project is to be implemented over 24 months. It will be executed by the Division for Gender Affairs of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, in collaboration with the Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA.). | | Objetivos / Objectives / Objectifs: | - To increase the capacity of national Governments in Latin America and the Caribbean to formulate public policies that promote gender equality and contribute to poverty reduction through implementation of time-use surveys for the measurement of women?s unpaid work, to demonstrate how this limits their access to economic resources.
