 | Ageing and Development: National Transfer Accounts (NTA) |  | | | Resumen / Abstract / Résumé: | | With its aging populations, Latin America will soon confront the same economic and fiscal issues as current-day Europe ? but at lower levels of economic development and in the presence of persistent and high levels of inequality. Through the use of a new comprehensive approach to measuring aggregate economic flows across age and time (National Transfer Accounts), we will assess the impact of changing age structures in 3 key areas: economic growth, equity (intergenerational and intragenerational), and sustainability of intergenerational support systems (via families, governments, and markets). | | Objetivos / Objectives / Objectifs: | - The overall objective of the project is to increase awarness and policy debate about the long term fiscal sustainability and equity of social protection systems in LA in face of population ageing
| | Resultados / Results / Résultats: | - To improve technical capacity of participating national teams to develop, implement and use NTA methods
- To inform social protection policy decisions by an analysis of the impact of population ageing on economic growth, fiscal sustainability and equity
- To focus policy makers on the importance of long-run transformations brought about by population ageing through more effective communications
- To foster cross country comparison, collaborations and regional perspectives
